  • till the storms pass by

We had heavy rain and winds in the middle of the last 2 nights,  with tornado sirens going off the first night.

Oklahoma did have damage and lives lost,  I've heard the sirens were not working in the town with the deaths but don't know if that is true.

No damage at our home and we are very thankful,  just wind that is knocking all the rose petals off the blooms and plenty of water in every low place.  After the drought and heat wave of 2011,  I don't think I will ever complain about too much rain though.

Church attendance was lower than normal this morning.  My guess is because most everyone was up in the night both Friday and Saturday,  many were just too tired to sit through a service.

This is the day the LORD has made,  bad weather and good weather alike,  so I will just rejoice that He loves us and will work all things together for good.

  • Easter 2012

I guess I am a Xanga-Idiot because I cannot figure out to move around this pictures.

You can probably tell were all taken today, as we celebrated Easter.

baby Andie was just 5 pounds when she was born 3-1-12.  Now she is over 7 pounds,  and doing everything a little baby should.  I am reminded of what a miracle she is every time I look at her.

this is not all my family that was here today,  just everyone I got in pictures - some people don't want to pose, you know?

Son Bobby cooked in a barbecue contest on Saturday and he cooked plenty for our Easter lunch, - smoked ribs, pork, brisket and chicken - so yummy!

hope you all had a wonderful, blessed Resurrection Sunday.

  • what I did today (so far)

one of those nights when I woke up too early.  I went to sleep about 11pm but woke up at 300am.  I could not go to sleep so I got up at 330am.

I left hubby sleeping, then went to the back bedroom.  I did my Bible reading, then ironed 7 blouses and 1 skirt for me,  1 shirt for hubby.

Did some sewing on 2 blouses for me,  both use navy thread so I can sew them assembly line style.

Woke up hubby at 6am.  Made his coffee and fixed his lunch box.

took a shower and got dressed in a skirt and top at 630.  Started the first of 3 loads of laundry.

made chocolate chip muffins at 700am

Grandson got here about 800am.  He ate muffins and milk and watched a little TV.  I paid bills and balanced the checkbook.

920  we left for town.  We stopped at Walgreens for good deals on hair color,  the cashier talked me into a good deal on soda - not a neccessity but it will be nice to have for company.

1000  Grandson and I went to the local library for story time.

1045 left library and stopped at one grocery store for sales - milk, potatoes, lettuce, tomatoes and also bought some gravy mix on clearance

1130  we picked up Granddaughter at her preschool.  Then we came home.  DIL was here to pick to Grandson.    I brought in the morning purchases and got lunch for Granddaugther and me.

1200 we went to the backyard to play.  I also called my parents and talk to both of them.  They were having a garage sale and on a speaker phone so I heard my dad wheeling and dealing with lots of customers.

130 Daughter came to pick to Granddaughter.

Then I did a few things around the house and decided to color my hair.  The color stays on for 25 minutes so I sat and surf the internet.

300  rinsed my hair, put on a scarf and hat, and mowed the front and back yard and watered everything.

Came in the house about 500 and took another shower after I cooled off.

530 - put a clean sheet on the baby crib and cleaned the changing table as our youngest granddaughter and her parents are coming either tonight or tomorrow

Now I am waiting for hubby to get home,  he had to work later,  just "supervising/babysitting"  a contractor that is installing a new gate at his job location.

and guess what I forgot to do?  Plan anything for supper!  There is plenty of food here,  will talk to hubby when he leaves for home and see what he wants - it might be  some smoked turkey from the freezer and veggies,  or a pizza on a homemade crust in the freezer or ???  he may want to stop and bring home some food.

surprisingly my lack of sleep has not caught up with me yet!

so,  did your day go anything like mine?  It was a typical day for me and I imagine similar to most of yours too.  But I hope you got more than 4 hours of sleep!

  • March Update

Hello everyone!  Happy Spring to everyone too.  I did not mean to be absent for so long but life has just been busy.

See that sweet tiny baby my husband is holding and grandson Gavin is so thrilled to be holding?

Meet our newest granddaughter, Andie.  She was not due until the end of March, but she came 4 weeks early, weighing just 5 pounds 1 ounce.  She had a rocky start and her first helicopter ride on her 2nd day of life.   But now is she doing great - thriving and growing and making everyone happy!

This is granddaughter Elizabeth. She stayed with us one evening while her parents went to the movies.  She got a bath and she turns in to a curly top with fresh-washed hair.  (they saw "the vow"  Nina was very disappointed,  she was really looking forward to it but did not like it all)

Last week was spring break, Elizabeth's dad and Gavin's mom are both educators.  They had the week off so I was off babysitting duty too!  I did so much relaxing and a few projects around the house.  One project was putting out some Easter decorations.

Nothing is new, just stuff I've been using for years.

that's baby Andie in the oval frame

This is me, holding sweet little Andie.

Saturday,  hubby and I spent most of the whole day working in the backyard.  We mowed,  added some new lawn furniture and bedding plants.  We even added some tomato and pepper plants in some big pots we already had.

I was not planning on adding veggies but really, it seems to the only smart thing to do.  When I shop for groceries,  everytime I look at an ever-increasing price tag - I think "this is a joke, right?"  Thankfully, our finances still allow us to keep fed but I am watching my purchases, using them and cutting out waste just as much as possible.

I'll try to be back before 3 months are up again.

  • my current favorite deal sites

    http://hip2save.com/

    http://moneysavingmom.com/

    http://www.commonsensewithmoney.com/

There are many, many bloggers writing about good deals for shopping both in stores and online.  But I know it is silly and impossible to know what all of them say.
It is hard to know really which ones are best,  but I seem to mostly be seeing things that apply to me on Hip 2 Save right now.  I got an email from them tonight and saw a great deal on Maidenform bras.  These are something I really need and have been looking for,  I am happy to of ordered 3 high quality bras for $24 shipped.  I think even at Walmart,  I would spend that much on just one.

MoneySavingMom is a really good one.  She really lives the money saving lifestyle she writes about and she donates much of her profits to charity.

CommonSense with Money is my third favorite but since I only plan to subscribe to 2 deal lists-emails,  for now I will be sticking with the first 2.

If you want to follow these sites,  details are on their websites.  They are also on Facebook.

I like to get their daily emails with all the deals listed at the top, I can just skim over that list and click on a link if I am iterested.  If not,  I can just delete.

Some of the good deals expire very fast - so following on Facebook will get you the notice quicker - but I don't want to spend my time stalking facebook for deals.
